Our team at Life Afar works long hours. But we love what we do, especially the process of getting to know the the amazing digital nomads, remote workers, back-backers, travelers, and international entrepreneurs that work out of our Global Express Center in El Poblado. This fall, our team decided to curate monthly adventures out and about in Medellin open to any co-worker or community member. We believe there’s much to be gained from real-life adventures; and in living a life abroad every experience outside of work becomes educational and enriching.
This November, our office’s #1 soccer fan – and #LifeAfar designer – organized a group to see a match at Estadio Atanasio Girardot in Laureles, one of our favorite neighborhoods, between Medellin’s two main teams: Atletico Nacional and and Independiente Medellín. This is known as “El Clásico” – a highly-charged, electrifying match-up that reverberates in song and dance, jeering and cheering throughout the entire stadium. Behind each goal post, both team’s respective hard-core fans — painted in the colors of their team– bang on drums, sing, dance, and chant, keeping the spirit of the stadium alive for the entirety of the match. It is a sight to behold! There is nothing quite like it. Our crew braved the rain for the entirety of the first-half in our 2-pesos ponchos, but no amount of rain could squash our energy that day.
